I heard only the first two comparisons on my laptop speakers, it was extremely obvious which is which and I stopped it. There are some who feel the pianos are mixed between the segments though, and even somebody who thinks B is the acoustic one. The OP on the Pianoteq forum hasn't confirmed, but there as well most people feel the same way. Personally I think the acoustic is A in all of the 5 segments, without being able to say for certain in the last one, due to it's short length. Maybe they simply agreed with the previous posters, or maybe they were a little shy to clearly take a pick, just în case they may be mistaken?! Is sample A Pianoteq ? or is sample A Steinway ?Īctually there were others who said they can clearly hear the Pianoteq tone or speaking of PT's sound signature without mentioning if it's A or B or if in the first section it's a, then b, then a again, etc. Well, it doesn't seem like much of a "gamble" when you have not specified "what it is" you are betting on about sample A. I’ve not heard the samples (a small part or quantity intended to show what the whole is like), but being a gambler by nature, I bet on sample A!

Well said Mario, the most intelligent comment I read about it. It took me almost twenty years to get rid of this addiction. In music, an overly analytical mentality can be the main obstacle to a true understanding and enjoyment of the art. And for the best sound systems, we could elaborate long descriptions, but it was almost impossible to tell what set them apart from others systems. Everybody said the fashionable expressions and it was obvious that almost nobody knew what they were talking about. When I went to audiophile festivals I realized that the translation of words into reality was rather precarious. I have read audiophile magazines for a long time and have found it very easy, and sometimes almost inevitable, to be deceived by our own words. But it could also be the same piano in another room, recorded with another microphone in a distinct position. Is the second Pianoteq because the sound is more "perfect", synthetic, less rich? Maybe. Besides that, it seems to be the same piano in different conditions.
